Meet Alex – firstlight’s newest Account Executive

Tell us about your career to date.

I graduated with a degree in International Relations from the University of Exeter in summer 2021. Having spent half of my time at university during covid I wanted to get some hands-on work experience to see what the world of PR was really like. After this I knew that PR was the career for me, so I applied for a two-month internship at firstlight and I was lucky enough that they had me on to stay as an Account Executive afterwards!

What do you like about working here?

The supportive and friendly culture of firstlight is what I love most about working here. Starting a new job with no experience in the industry can be daunting, but all my colleagues were super encouraging. Making sure I was getting stuck-in with the account work from day one, whilst also making sure I have been fully supported the entire time – I’ve learnt so much. Although I am also very excited for my first firstlight Christmas trip!

Tell us about a piece of coverage that you’ve worked on that you are particularly proud of?

The first project I watched evolve from the very start, all the way from brainstorming ideas, to content creation and selling it into media was a recent Spring campaign with Bibby Financial Services. Being involved and watching it all come together was an exciting process, and it even ended up in the Times!

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

As an Account Executive I’m involved in the day-to-day running of my various account and the press office. Such as pitching to media, creating coverage reports, writing bylines and so much more. However, every single day is totally different, which I love.

What is the last book you read?

The last book I read was Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena. I’ve read all of her books – I love a murder mystery.

What about your favourite food?

Malaysian Laksa. When I visited a few summers ago I even had it for breakfast.
