This week we say goodbye to Ishaan, as his six-week internship comes to a close, and we wish him all the best for his next year at university.

Ishaan joined us through the Taylor Bennett foundation’s Summer Stars internship programme – which we’re proud to be a partner of.

The Taylor Bennett foundation is committed to supporting diversity and inclusion in the communications industry. Through partnering with businesses with a communications function, the foundation aims to improve accessibility and open doors for bright young adults interested in their first communications role.

At firstlight, we’ve been impressed with Ishaan’s can-do attitude over his six-week internship, and we hope he’s learned a lot more about the world of PR and comms. As a parting favour we asked him to tell us a bit about his experience…

“The last six weeks at Firstlight have been nothing but informative, insightful, and enjoyable. When I first started my internship, I didn’t know quite what to expect as the PR world was completely new to me. I knew it would involve helping organisations expand their reach with their target audience, but I didn’t understand how I would set about achieving this.

“Through this opportunity I have been able to sit and observe the practice of a PR agency, as well as helping with day-to-day tasks. I have had the privilege of working with a variety of sectors such as ESG & sustainability, transport, and financial services’.

“Throughout this internship I have been able to learn from everyone at Firstlight covering multiple areas of comms. For example, digital content creation – something I took a keen interest in as digital media is such a fast-growing sector.

“As well as learning from the team here, I have been able to work in an incredibly friendly environment. The working environment at Firstlight is very dynamic and has proven to be interesting daily, making the term ‘no two days are the same’ very apt. However, this does mean constant movement of diaries and juggling priorities, but once I found a rhythm this was easy to manage.

“Regardless of whether you’re considering PR as a career, I would recommend gaining experience in the industry as there are multiple transferable skills and interesting tasks to engage in.”
